RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH WORKING FROM HOME

Working from home has presented challenges that companies need to look at and come up with solutions on how best these can be minimized. We are going to discuss some of the risks associated with working from home:

Cyber attacks

These are prevalent since some employees will use unsecured networks whilst working from home. Cyber attackers can hack into the company system and steal sensitive information.

Damage to work property

For employees to efficiently work from home there is need for the employers to provide employees with electronic equipment so they can execute their duties. The employer however has no control over how the equipment is being used and stored, which may result in loss or damage to the equipment and its depreciation at a faster rate.

Theft of Company Property

In light of economic challenges being faced there is an increased incidence of burglary cases. Unattended offices are becoming targets of thieves

No insurance cover for equipment

The policyholder / organisation during these times should ensure that their insurance policies are extended to cover for work away and to also consider extending cover for equipment away from business premises.

Morale Risks

The other morale risk arising during these lockdown periods is that many employees may feel that they are in a precarious position because of economic uncertainty, insecurity about future employment and what will happen in case of restructuring or redundancy.  There is therefore need to give reassurance to employees with regards to the future of the organisation.
